Context

TartanHacks is Carnegie Mellon’s annual hackathon hosted by ScottyLabs, bringing together participants from across the country to build innovative projects. As a Brand Designer for ScottyLabs, I helped develop the visual identity for the 2026 theme, Mosaic. The identity used glassmorphism and 3D elements to represent diverse perspectives coming together into a cohesive whole.

Working with the ScottyLabs Brand Design Team, I implemented this system across digital teaser campaigns, event merchandise, and large-scale venue signage, ensuring visual consistency throughout a multi-day production cycle. The project required designing a scalable visual framework that could support thousands of participants while meeting the real-world constraints of Carnegie Mellon’s hackathon.

Reflection

Designing for TartanHacks 2026’s theme 'Mosaic' was my first experience working on branding at scale. Working with the ScottyLabs brand team taught me how visual systems must remain cohesive across many applications while defining the identity of the event. I’m grateful for the hands-on experience with organization and collaboration, and seeing the branding come to life during the hackathon made me even more interested in exploring branding work in the future.
